Alberta-bound
The trip home was a blast. We timed the trip across Great Slave Lake on the ferry at Fort Providence almost perfectly. We stopped along the way to view twin falls- Alexandria and Louise. There were not one but double rainbows there which the picture doesn't do justice for. The hotel water slide brought out the kid in both of us at High level, the "city of lights". Their claim to fame is a strip of highway in the middle of nowhere that looks like Vegas. Strange, isn't it? Just like Melita MB has a giant banana statue, every town has quirky charm in some way.
Sean tolerated me as I busted out a song or ten and read books to him. We buffalo watched, we bird watched... Then those lovely mountains came into sight.

The blasted barge
En route, NTCL- the Artic Barge docked at the Lodge and offered a quick tour where I viewed to the engine room, the cabins, the upper deck and the control room. Unfortunately I did not see Sean’s ski-doo on that barge.
Exploring Taltheilei narrows
I took a few months hiatus from physio this summer and headed to the Northwest Territories to work at a Plummer's Lodge in the Taltheilei narrows. Sean has been there many summers.
On our nights off we often took a boat out and docked on another island to explore. Featured are caribou lichen and cranberries, waterfalls, a sweat lodge tent frame and stromatolites- remnants of blue-green cyanobateria which would have been the primary producers of oxygen in our early atmosphere. Cool eh?
Mel's big catch and release
Lutsel K’e was a lucky place for this very amateur fisherman to get hooked on the hobby. Sean didn’t have a chance to videotape my catch in action as I muttered out part sentences about getting the rod under my elbow. I clearly needed coaching through the whole experience. The fish was very hospitable and even sat well for a picture. Perhaps like dogs they become more tolerant with age.
Fishing
Just for fun Sean attached glowsticks to our lines and lures for a few nights on the boat. The luminescent show was definitely worth the lack of success. I think the fish were suspicious of the radioactive looking bait.
